Branch Collar

Branch collar is the swollen area where a tree branch joins the trunk or another branch. The branch collar contains specialized tissue that helps protect the tree from disease and decay when a branch is removed or breaks off. Proper pruning techniques involve cutting just outside the branch collar to promote healing and minimize the risk of infection.
