Tensiometer

Tensiometer is a device used to measure the soils moisture tension, or the amount of force required by plant roots to extract water from the soil. It consists of a tube filled with water and a porous ceramic tip that is inserted into the soil. As the soil dries, water is drawn from the tensiometer, creating a vacuum that can be measured. Tensiometers are commonly used in agriculture and irrigation management to help determine when to water crops.
