Thatch Accumulation

Thatch accumulation is the buildup of dead and living plant material, such as roots, stems, and shoots, between the soil surface and the actively growing turfgrass. Excessive thatch can create a barrier that restricts water, nutrients, and air from reaching the root zone, leading to turf health problems. Thatch management through dethatching or aeration is important for maintaining healthy turf and preventing disease.
