Root Ball

A root ball refers to the mass of roots and surrounding soil that is removed when a plant is dug up for transplanting. The root ball contains most of the plant's root system and is essential for its survival when moved to a new location. Proper handling of the root ball is critical to minimizing transplant shock, as disturbing the roots too much can lead to stress or damage. In landscaping, root balls are often wrapped in burlap to protect them during transport.
