Scalping (sod production)

Scalping in sod production refers to the practice of cutting the grass or sod at an extremely low height, usually during harvesting. Scalping removes much of the leaf tissue and exposes the soil surface. This process is part of sod harvesting, allowing the sod to be cut into strips for transplanting. Scalping can stress the grass, but it helps create uniform sod rolls for sale and installation.
